How to get/activate VPS with Deriv?

Deriv traders who run Expert Advisors on MT5, automated scripts on cTrader, or 24/7 strategies with Deriv Bot all face the same problem: your home internet and laptop are not built for non-stop trading. A Forex VPS Virtual Private Server fixes that by giving your strategies a remote Windows server that stays online all the time, close to Deriv’s trading servers, with stable latency and power.

Deriv does not supply its own integrated VPS service. Traders who want continuous execution connect Deriv platforms to an external VPS provider or to the MetaTrader virtual hosting service inside MT5.

What a Forex VPS does for Deriv traders

A Forex VPS is a remote Windows server in a data centre. You log in with Remote Desktop, install Deriv MT5, Deriv cTrader or a browser, and leave your strategies running there.

For Deriv traders, this gives three concrete advantages:

  • Uptime – your MT5 EAs, cTrader algos or Deriv Bot scripts continue to work even when your home PC is off or your router drops.
  • Latency – VPS providers place servers in financial hubs with direct routes to broker servers, which cuts ping and helps order execution.
  • Isolation – the trading environment runs on a clean Windows image without random software, pop-ups or background apps that slow down charts.

You treat the VPS as your dedicated trading workstation in the cloud, with Deriv platforms installed once and left running.

Key fact: Deriv itself doesn’t ship a VPS

Deriv’s own platforms, MT5, cTrader, Deriv Bot, DTrader, SmartTrader, Deriv GO do not include a proprietary VPS product. Independent reviews of Deriv automation tools, including Deriv Bot, clearly state that if you want the bot or strategies to run 24/7, you must connect to an external VPS service, because Deriv does not supply one directly.

This has two implications:

  • You are free to use any Forex VPS provider that supports Windows and Remote Desktop.
  • There are no Deriv-specific deposit or volume conditions for VPS usage, unlike some brokers that sponsor VPS only above a lot threshold.

Your interaction is always:

Deriv account ↔ MT5 or cTrader or browser ↔ VPS provider’s infrastructure

Deriv manages trading. The VPS company manages hardware and connectivity.

Step 1 – Decide what you want to run on the VPS

Before you order anything, define what needs to stay online:

  • Deriv MT5
    • For Forex, synthetic indices, commodities, indices and crypto CFDs with Expert Advisors or manual trading from a stable connection.
  • Deriv cTrader
    • For traders who use cTrader algos, advanced depth-of-market tools or cTrader copy trading, again needing non-stop operation.
  • Deriv Bot DBot
    • Browser-based automation for digital contracts and multipliers on Forex and synthetic indices. To run DBot 24/7 you load a browser on the VPS and keep the bot session active there.
  • Other tools
    • Trade journals, custom analytics dashboards, or proprietary scripts that interact with Deriv’s API.

The more platforms and bots you intend to host, the more CPU and RAM you need. For a single MT5 instance with one or two EAs, a lightweight VPS plan is enough. Multiple MT5 terminals, cTrader plus several browsers require more powerful specifications.

Step 2 – Choose a VPS provider suitable for Deriv

Many VPS companies advertise services tailored for Forex and explicitly list Deriv as one of the supported brokers. These offerings highlight ready-to-use Windows servers with MT4 or MT5 pre-installed, ultra-low latency to Deriv servers, and 24/7 uptime guarantees.

When you select a provider, focus on four technical points:

  • Operating system
    • Choose a Windows VPS, for example Windows Server. That ensures full compatibility with Deriv MT5, Deriv cTrader and standard browsers.
  • Server location
    • Select a data centre close to Deriv’s trading infrastructure. Latency tables from Forex VPS firms show Deriv servers in hubs like Singapore and key European locations, with single-digit millisecond pings from nearby VPS sites.
  • Resources
    • For one MT5 or cTrader instance with modest EA usage, a configuration with 1–2 vCPUs, 2 GB RAM and SSD or NVMe storage is sufficient.
    • For heavier usage, multiple platforms, intensive EAs, constant tick charts, choose at least 2–4 vCPUs and 4–8 GB RAM.
  • Uptime and support
    • Professional VPS hosts publish uptime guarantees around 99.9% and provide technical support for connection issues.

Once you compare plans on these points, pick the one that matches your strategy load instead of simply taking the cheapest option.

Plan type Typical usage
Lightweight VPS Single Deriv MT5 account with one or two EAs

Step 3 – Order the VPS and prepare Remote Desktop access

After choosing a provider, you complete sign-up and payment. The host then provisions your VPS and sends:

  • IP address of the server
  • Username, often Administrator
  • Initial password
  • Optional control-panel link

Forex-focused VPS companies often deliver these credentials within minutes.

On your local device:

  • Windows PC
    • Use the built-in Remote Desktop Connection app.
    • Enter the VPS IP, then username and password to connect.
  • macOS
    • Install Microsoft Remote Desktop from the Mac App Store and connect using the same VPS IP and credentials.
  • Mobile Android or iOS
    • Install a Remote Desktop client and save the VPS profile so you can monitor trades on the move.

Once connected, you see a normal Windows desktop inside a window. Treat it as your remote trading machine.

Step 4 – Install and connect Deriv MT5 on the VPS

Invest in Forex with Deriv

With the VPS desktop in front of you, install Deriv MT5 exactly as you would on a local PC.

Install Deriv MT5

You have two options:

  • Download the Deriv MT5 installer from the official link and run it inside the VPS.
  • If the VPS provider already pre-installs MT5, simply open the platform shortcut.

During installation, keep all standard settings. MT5 will place a shortcut on the VPS desktop.

Log in to your Deriv MT5 account

  1. Open MT5 on the VPS.
  2. Click File then Login to Trade Account.
  3. In the search bar for brokers, type Deriv and select the correct Deriv server for your account.
  4. Enter your MT5 login ID and MT5 password.
  5. Confirm to log in.

The status bar should now display Connected with tick data streaming and ping times reflecting VPS proximity to Deriv’s servers.

Load EAs and templates

On the VPS:

  1. Copy your Expert Advisors and indicators into the MQL5 or Experts and MQL5 or Indicators folders.
  2. Restart MT5 to load them.
  3. Apply the EAs to charts and enable Algo Trading.

From this point, MT5 runs permanently on the VPS. As long as the VPS stays up, your strategies keep trading even if your personal computer is off.

Step 5 – Install and connect Deriv cTrader on the VPS

If you use Deriv cTrader, repeat a similar process:

  1. Download and install the cTrader Desktop client inside the VPS.
  2. Launch cTrader and log in with your Deriv cTrader account credentials.
  3. Configure any algo trading modules or cBots you use.
  4. Leave cTrader running with your trading workspace open.

Because the VPS provides a persistent Windows session, cTrader’s algorithms and copy trading profiles continue to execute without relying on your local machine.

Step 6 – Run Deriv Bot DBot and web platforms on the VPS

Deriv Bot and the other web platforms DTrader, SmartTrader run in a browser. To use a VPS for these:

  1. On the VPS desktop, install a modern browser such as Chrome or Edge.
  2. Log into your Deriv account through the Deriv site.
  3. Open Deriv Bot and load your bot configuration.
  4. Start the bot and keep the browser tab open on the VPS.

Because Deriv Bot is browser-dependent when run locally, moving it to a VPS removes the need to keep your own PC or browser running. Reviews of DBot automation clearly highlight VPS hosting as the way to maintain continuous operation, since the broker does not add its own hosting layer.

You can also open DTrader or SmartTrader in additional tabs if you want manual monitoring from the same remote environment.

Step 7 – Alternative: MetaTrader VPS inside Deriv MT5

Another path is to use the MetaTrader VPS feature integrated in MT5, run by the MetaQuotes MQL5 hosting service. This option sits directly inside the Deriv MT5 terminal and provides virtual hosting optimised for running EAs.

To activate it from your Deriv MT5 account:

  1. Log into your Deriv MT5 account on your local PC.
  2. In the Navigator, right-click on your trading account and select Register a Virtual Server or MQL5 VPS.
  3. Choose a hosting location close to your Deriv server.
  4. Start the hosting plan.
  5. Use the MT5 dialog to synchronise your current charts, EAs and settings to the virtual server.

After synchronisation, the MetaTrader VPS runs your strategies inside the MT5 ecosystem itself. There is no remote desktop to manage, the hosting is bound to your MT5 profile.

This integrated virtual hosting is separate from Deriv infrastructure, but it works seamlessly with Deriv MT5 accounts and is designed specifically for continuous EA operation.

Step 8 – Secure and optimise your Deriv VPS setup

Once everything is running, take a few steps to keep the trading environment stable:

  • Set strong passwords
    • Change the default VPS password to a long, unique one and store it safely.
  • Disable sleep and auto-lock
    • On the VPS, configure power settings so the server never sleeps and the screen lock does not interrupt platform windows.
  • Control Windows updates
    • Schedule system updates outside your active trading sessions and restart the VPS manually after updates finish. Sudden restarts in the middle of trading can disrupt EAs.
  • Limit background software
    • Avoid installing unrelated apps, media tools or heavy background processes. Keep the VPS focused on MT5, cTrader and browsers for Deriv.
  • Monitor resource usage
    • Use Task Manager to check CPU and RAM usage. If you run close to 100% for long periods, upgrade your VPS plan to prevent platform freezes.
  • Back up configurations
    • Export MT5 profiles, scripts and EA settings to a secure location. In case you migrate to another VPS, you can restore your exact trading environment without re-building everything.

These actions keep your Deriv VPS clean and predictable, which is exactly what automated Forex and synthetic indices strategies need.

Step 9 – Practical checklist before you trust it with live Forex trades

Before committing real capital to a Deriv strategy on VPS, confirm these points:

  • MT5 or cTrader shows stable ping to Deriv servers from the VPS.
  • All required charts, indicators and EAs are loaded and stay active for several test sessions.
  • Deriv Bot or any other web automation continues to run when you disconnect your local Remote Desktop session.
  • The VPS does not reboot or disconnect unexpectedly over several days of monitoring.

Once everything passes this checklist, the VPS is ready to handle your Deriv Forex and CFD trading in a continuous, low-latency environment.

Getting and activating a VPS for Deriv trading is straightforward once you understand the structure:

  • Deriv does not run its own VPS service, traders connect to external Forex VPS hosts or to MetaTrader’s built-in virtual hosting from inside MT5.
  • You choose a Windows VPS in a data centre close to Deriv servers, with suitable CPU or RAM and stable uptime.
  • Inside that VPS, you install Deriv MT5, Deriv cTrader and a browser, then log into your Deriv accounts and keep your EAs and bots running around the clock.

With this structure in place, your Forex and synthetic indices strategies operate from a dedicated remote server that stays online continuously, independent of your home internet or hardware.

Deriv account types and platform types

Deriv structures its trading in a very clear way for Forex traders. Instead of one generic account and one trading platform, it uses a mix of account types and platform types that you combine inside a single Trader’s Hub. Once you understand how these pieces fit together, you can match each Forex strategy with the right account and the right interface.

How Deriv organises accounts and platforms

Deriv separates your trading setup into three layers:

  • A Deriv Wallet where you keep balances in your chosen currencies.
  • Trading accounts that sit under the wallet. Each trading account is tied to a platform and a pricing profile.
  • Platforms that you actually trade on, such as Deriv MT5, Deriv cTrader, Deriv Trader, SmartTrader, Deriv Bot, Deriv GO and Deriv X.

This structure lets you keep one pool of funds but run several trading accounts at the same time:

  • MT5 accounts for Forex and CFD trading.
  • A cTrader account for CFD and copy trading.
  • Options and multipliers accounts for fixed stake contracts and multipliers on Forex and synthetic indices.

Deriv MT5 the main CFD platform

Deriv MT5 is the broker’s multi-asset CFD platform. From one MT5 terminal you trade:

  • Forex pairs
  • Stock indices
  • Single stocks
  • Commodities
  • Cryptocurrencies
  • Synthetic derived indices

All MT5 accounts on Deriv share some core features:

  • High leverage up to 1:1000 for many profiles and jurisdictions.
  • Negative balance protection, so your account cannot go below zero due to market gaps.
  • Access to stop loss and take profit orders.
  • Support for Expert Advisors EAs and algorithmic trading.

On top of this base, Deriv layers several MT5 account types, each tuned for specific markets or pricing styles.

According to Deriv’s current documentation and dedicated MT5 guides, the MT5 account family now includes, Standard, Financial, Financial STP, Swap-Free, Zero Spread and Gold accounts.

Standard account the all round MT5 profile

The Standard account is the most flexible MT5 profile for many Forex traders:

  • Instruments, Forex, indices, stocks, commodities, cryptocurrencies and synthetic indices.
  • Pricing, variable spreads, trading cost is built mainly into the spread.
  • Leverage, up to 1:1000 in many setups.

If you want one MT5 account that trades both classic financial markets and Deriv’s 24 or 7 synthetic indices, the Standard account covers that use case. It suits intraday Forex strategies, swing trading, and simple EA setups.

Swap Free account MT5 without overnight charges

The Swap-Free account is designed for traders who do not want overnight financing on selected assets:

  • Instruments, a defined list of Forex pairs, synthetic indices and some other CFDs that qualify for swap-free conditions.
  • Pricing, spreads and an adjusted fee structure instead of classic swaps.
  • Leverage, typically up to 1:500 on this account, depending on instrument and region.

On this profile you keep positions open overnight without swap charges on the supported instruments. The cost model moves into spread and any flat administration charges that Deriv applies per symbol. This is useful for long-term Forex strategies and for traders who want trading conditions aligned with specific religious principles.

Zero Spread account MT5 with raw pricing plus commission

The Zero Spread account targets traders who prefer a raw-spread plus commission model:

  • Instruments, financial instruments and synthetic indices, with a strong focus on Forex majors and key CFDs.
  • Pricing, spreads can start from 0 pips on liquid FX pairs, a separate commission per volume traded applies.

With this profile you see very tight spreads in MT5. Trading cost becomes more transparent in the form of a fixed commission schedule per lot. That pattern suits scalpers, high-frequency EAs, and traders who manage cost per trade in a detailed way.

Financial account MT5 for pure financial markets

The Financial account focuses on traditional financial markets:

  • Instruments, Forex, stock indices, single shares, commodities, ETFs and crypto CFDs. Synthetic indices sit outside this profile.
  • Pricing, the tightest spreads among Deriv MT5 accounts on many liquid instruments.
  • Commission, a defined commission structure per asset group, documented in Deriv’s CFD commission tables.

For a Forex trader who wants to concentrate on currency pairs together with stock and commodity indices, the Financial account gives a focused instrument list and sharp pricing without synthetic instruments in the same profile.

Gold account MT5 account specialised for metals

The Gold account is a specialised MT5 profile built around gold and other precious metals:

  • Instruments, gold as the primary market, plus selected metal CFDs.
  • Pricing, spreads tuned specifically for XAU and related metals.
  • Role, dedicated metals account for traders who treat gold as a core strategy, either for directional trades or as a hedge against Forex exposure.

By isolating gold trading into its own account, you can monitor margin, exposure and performance on metals separately from Forex positions held on other MT5 accounts.

Financial STP account MT5 with STP model and moderate leverage

The Financial STP account applies a straight-through-processing model to financial CFDs:

  • Instruments, more than 50 assets, including Forex, commodities and cryptocurrencies.
  • Leverage, up to 1:100, lower than the top MT5 profiles, reflecting the different execution structure.
  • Pricing, wider spreads than the tightest Financial account, with trading cost reflected mainly in the spread and a published commission schedule per lot.

This account suits traders who want a more direct market style on financial instruments and who are comfortable working with lower leverage in exchange for that structure.

How the MT5 accounts connect to Forex trading

From a Forex perspective, these MT5 profiles give you a set of clear choices:

Pricing style

  • Spread-only focus with simple cost structure,
    • Standard, Financial, Gold.
  • Raw or near-raw spread with explicit commission,
    • Zero Spread, Financial STP, Swap-Free, where administration fees are separated.

Instrument coverage

  • Financial instruments plus synthetic indices,
    • Standard, Zero Spread, Swap-Free.
  • Financial instruments only,
    • Financial, Financial STP.
  • Metals focus,
    • Gold account.
You are free to open more than one MT5 account type under the same Deriv profile. For example, you keep a Standard account for synthetic indices and general Forex trading, and a Zero Spread account for intraday trades on major FX pairs.

Deriv cTrader CFD and copy trading platform

Alongside MT5, Deriv offers Deriv cTrader as a separate CFD platform:

  • Assets, Forex, stocks, commodities, crypto and synthetic indices, with more than 150 instruments listed.
  • Tools, over 60 indicators, advanced chart trading, level 2 depth of market, and multiple order types.
  • Copy trading, built-in function that lets you follow strategy providers and allocate funds across several profiles.
  • Cost structure, tight floating spreads with a transparent commission table dedicated to cTrader accounts.

Deriv treats cTrader as its own platform line with a single cTrader account profile. If you like the cTrader interface or rely on its depth-of-market view and native copy trading, this is the account you connect.

Deriv Trader browser platform for options and multipliers

Deriv Trader often described simply as Deriv Trader is a browser-based platform for options and multipliers:

  • Contracts, digital options and multipliers with fixed stake on each trade.
  • Assets, Forex, stock indices, commodities, cryptocurrencies and derived indices.
  • Features, custom charts, technical indicators, and a clear ticket that shows stake, potential payout and maximum loss before you place a trade.

Here you do not trade CFDs with variable margin. You choose stake and contract type, and the platform presents defined risk for that trade. Many Forex traders use Deriv Trader as a complement to MT5, for short-term directional views on currency pairs and synthetic indices.

Invest in Forex with Deriv

SmartTrader structured web interface for digital options

SmartTrader is another web platform focused on digital options:

  • Offers a guided interface with dropdowns for market, trade type, duration and stake.
  • Supports Forex, indices and commodities contracts similar to those on Deriv Trader, but with a more structured layout.

SmartTrader shares the same underlying options infrastructure as Deriv Trader. The choice between them is mainly about how you prefer to build and send trades from the browser.

Deriv Bot block based automation in the browser

Deriv Bot DBot is Deriv’s visual automation platform:

  • Runs in a web browser.
  • Lets you build trading logic by linking blocks instead of writing code.
  • Can trade Forex, indices and commodities using digital options contracts and multipliers.

You design the sequence, select asset and contract, define purchase conditions, restart rules and money management. Once the bot is live, it executes trades automatically within those rules. Traders who automate Forex strategies without coding treat DBot as a key part of their Deriv setup.

Deriv GO mobile app for multipliers and accumulator options

Deriv GO is the mobile trading app built for on-the-go use:

  • Instruments, Forex, derived indices and cryptocurrencies.
  • Products, multipliers and accumulator options with defined maximum loss per position.
  • Platform style, smartphone-friendly interface with watchlists, chart view and an order ticket tuned for quick actions.

If you want to monitor Forex exposure and synthetic indices away from your desk, Deriv GO is the mobile point of contact. It links to the same accounts that you see inside Trader’s Hub, so funds and exposure stay consistent across web and mobile.

Deriv X custom CFD platform phasing to MT5 and cTrader

Deriv X is or in some regions, was a custom multi-asset CFD platform from Deriv:

  • Instruments, Forex, commodities, crypto and derived indices, including gold trading via CFDs.
  • Interface, fully customisable layouts with panels, watchlists and advanced charting tools.

Recent focus from Deriv and external reviews indicates that MT5 and cTrader now carry most of the CFD trading load, while Deriv X is less prominent in new promotions. For a Forex trader who already uses Deriv X, it remains a full CFD platform, for new traders, Deriv MT5 and Deriv cTrader usually become the primary choices.

How Forex traders combine Deriv accounts and platforms in practice

In day-to-day trading, you normally do not pick just one account and one platform. A typical Forex and CFD setup on Deriv looks like this:

  • Deriv MT5 Standard or Financial account
    • Used for most Forex trades, indices, commodities and, if Standard, synthetic indices.
    • EAs run here for automated strategies.
  • Deriv MT5 Zero Spread or Financial STP account
    • Dedicated to cost-sensitive intraday trading and scalping on liquid Forex pairs.
    • Costs are tracked closely through commission schedules.
  • Deriv MT5 Gold account
    • Keeps gold and metals trades in a separate profile for clearer risk management.
  • Deriv cTrader account
    • Used when you want cTrader’s depth-of-market view, its set of charts, or integrated copy trading on Forex and other CFDs.
  • Deriv Trader or SmartTrader or Deriv Bot or Deriv GO accounts
    • Used for digital options, multipliers and visual automation alongside CFD positions.
    • Useful for expressing short-term Forex views with fixed stake and defined maximum loss.

Because everything sits under a single Trader’s Hub and wallet, you move funds between these accounts quickly. That makes it practical to keep one group of strategies on MT5, another group on cTrader, and a separate layer of multipliers or options trades on Deriv Trader, SmartTrader, Deriv Bot or Deriv GO.

For a Forex trader, this is the key idea behind Deriv account types and platform types:

  • Use MT5 and cTrader for leveraged CFD trading on currencies and other markets.
  • Use Deriv Trader, SmartTrader, Deriv Bot and Deriv GO when you want fixed-stake contracts, multipliers or browser-based automation.
  • Choose Standard, Swap-Free, Zero Spread, Financial, Gold or Financial STP on MT5 to match your cost structure, leverage preference and instrument mix.

Once you map each strategy to the right account and platform, Deriv’s structure becomes straightforward and gives you a clear, modular framework for Forex trading.
