What is EU 50 (EURO STOXX 50)?

Founded in 1998, EURO STOXX 50 is a market-capitalization-weighted equity index that reflects the performance of 50 large European companies operating in the euro area. As one of the most liquid indexes in the euro area, it is used as a benchmark and is a source of financial products.

What is EURO STOXX 50 composed of?

The composition of EURO STOXX 50 is reviewed every September and only companies in member countries of the euro area are eligible for listing. The European index includes companies at all market capitalization levels in Germany, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium and Finland.

The companies that make up EURO STOXX 50 are extracted from the 20 supersectors of the Eurozone with a floating market capitalization and traded on the Eulex Exchange, one of the world’s largest futures and options markets based in Germany.

The index is part of the Stoxx Blue Chip Index family, and its rapid entry and exit rules allow it to accurately represent the performance of only Europe’s largest and most liquid stocks.

It also supports a variety of currencies such as Euro (EUR), Pound (GBP), US Dollar (USD), Japanese Yen (JPY) and Canadian Dollar (CAD). The calculation is updated every 15 seconds between 9am and 6pm (CET) for US dollars and euros. For other currencies, prices are updated once a day at 6 pm (CET).
