In January, China first experienced an epidemic caused by the new Covid-19 virus.

During the year, over 82 million people have been infected worldwide, of which more than 1.5 million have died.

In February and March, most countries announced lockdowns which paralyzed many types of businesses and led to a collapse of the world economy.

In April, oil futures prices dropped below $0 due to an oversupply in the oil market.

In May, the global economy began to recover after the end of the first lockdowns.

Commodity assets were recovering in value thanks to strong economic growth in China.

Joe Biden won the US presidential election in November.

In anticipation of stimulus for the US economy, the USD started depreciating against major currencies.

In December, the United Kingdom was in the spotlight, where a new strain of coronavirus was identified.

Also, at the end of the month, the UK secured a long-awaited trade deal with the EU. This eliminated the possibility of a hard separation at the end of the transition period.
